Little Blue Bits Everywhere Our dog LOVED this toy I cannot stress this enough. He loved the challenge of getting the treats out and it was a great distraction for him while we were blowdrying him after his baths which is why we got it. But our dog is also a very strong chewer and he soon had little bits of blue rubber flaking out all over everywhere it came out in his poo of course. As much as we loved this toy I just can't feel comfortable essentially feeding our dog blue rubber and I would certainly never have left him alone with it for fear he would have simply devoured the entire thing along with the treat stick. In other words it really doesn't fulfill its purpose and I can't recommend it.
Need to be creative with this toy At first I placed an Occupi busy bars as directed on the package. Sure the busy bars entertained my maltese and poodle mix but not this toy in the beginning.I gave this toy one last chance to be useful.. and then I finally found out how to use this toy to dispense treats! My dogs love beef liver cubes. I cut the cubes into tiny pieces small enough to fit down the tube of this toy. Then I used the Pupperoni treats to plug up the small holes on the sides and a really big piece of Pupperoni or a beef liver cube to plug up the large end of the tube. With this formula this toy is now a success! It exhausts and challenges the dogs! It usually takes them quite a while to get all the treats out. Hooray! Yeah if I didn't figure out this technique sooner then I would have tossed this toy for sure.So far this toy has been very durable. Its lasted longer than our tirebased toys.
might be better if used with alternative treats This is a review for the Small size Occupi toy used with the small size busy barsI bought this for my 12week old puppy since she's currently in the cheweverythingwithinrangeofhermouth stage. At first it seemed like a great toy. I bought the crunchy busy bars to put inside the toy and she absolutely LOVED chewing on it. I soon realized there were quite a few problems with this toy howeverMy small puppy she's a chihuahua mixso quite small indeed very quickly chewed through the part of the busy bar that was sticking out the end of the toy. However she was unable to remove the rest of the bar from the toy and quickly lost interest in it. I ended up poking a knitting needle through the hole in the top to dislodge the remaining part of the bar and she pulled it loose from the toy within a minute or two and just ate the bar. If I had left her alone with the toy it wouldn't have occupied her for long which seems contrary to the purpose of this product.Since the bar can be consumed so quickly my puppy ended up getting sick that night and threw up. As a result I would not recommend the busy bars for small dogs since even the small sized busy bars are not really an appropriate size for a puppy to eat in one sitting I realize they do sell other types of treats for this toy but unfortunately I now have a bag of busy bars that are evidently not appropriate for my small dog.Even after one day of use by a wee little dog the toy was covered in teeth marks and I'm not sure it will be able to endure regular chewing.Overall I wasn't impressed by this toy and I especially wasn't impressed by the busy bars meant to go inside.
Ret loves it Ret loves tearing it apart anyway Another toy to add to the list of not so durable toys. At least he kindly spit out most of the chunks.
Dumbest toy ever Big hole in the bottom just dumps all the treats out on the carpet when my dog touches it.
Not worth the money I usually buy the Kong toys for our 4 dogs but thought the different shape of this one would interest them. It did for about 10 minutes. This toy started falling apart so quickly I didn't even have all the Christmas shopping out of the car and inside before it was in small chunks all over my living room. Very disappointing.
complicated We haven't had much experience with chewing it yet still working out the treats issue. The Bits fall out the holes like water and we got the wrong size bars to block the hole.
Unfortunately chewed up within 3 minutes I wanted this product to work for our 9 mo. old 35# chewer. She had the top chewed into pieces within 3 minutes. Thankfully she didn't swallow any of it so I don't have to go hunting in poop.GREAT idea but it was grossly inferior to the Kong products.
Not for powerful chewers My Labrador retriever chewed through this toy near the top within minutes of finishing the treats I had stuffed inside. Also the small round treats they sell with the toy spill out immediately so they do not present a challenge to occupy the dog. It is really frustrating to spend money on toys to keep him busy only to have him chew through them very quickly. I will stick to Kong toys from now on. They are the only toys he cannot destroy.
definitely not tough enough I have a 6 month old miniature poodle. Yes she has her adult teeth and is a determined chewer but she is not a pit bull. This toy small version she is only 14 lb lasted less than 10 minutes before she tore chunks off it. She loved it and greatly protested its confiscation but I didn't feel it was safe for her to eat big hunks of rubber. She did love it which is why it gets 2 stars instead of 1 but it was too expensive for 5 minutes of fun. She has also taken chunks out of ordinary nylabones but so far has failed to dent her puppy kongs even with adult teeth.
